… the HR Minion. Because even minions have opinions. And giggles.

I need to check my ego at the door.

I’m an HR Minion. I don’t have direct reports, I get the odd jobs, and I certainly don’t have the fancy desk or big paycheck that HR managers or executives have. That’s fine by me; I haven’t earned those yet. I am still growing and developing my career as an HR professional. However, I do a damn good job, if I say so myself (which I am), and I’m proud of that.

And that is where the problem lies. Sometimes to get the job done you need to check your ego and pride at the door. We could possibly have a big recruiting blitz coming up and we are going to need to call in help from corporate in order to accomplish it. I know that. There is only so much I can do with the resources at my disposal (See previous post). But it still feels like someone is poking my professional pride with a large, pointy stick.

The intelligent, mature side of me realizes that I need to get over it and graciously accept the help offered. The petulant, prideful part of me wants to pout in a corner and sulk. What did Dan Pink say in his book again? Oh right, IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU! So, here I am being a big grown up minion and not taking things personally. In the end, it’s all about your customer and meeting their needs. Even if you have to swallow your pride to do it.
