… the HR Minion. Because even minions have opinions. And giggles.

Capable minion seeks evil mastermind to hench for. Must like blogs.

For those of you who don’t follow me on Twitter (you guys really need to get on that, I’m quite entertaining), yesterday was not a good day. My boss let me know that I will be laid off in 30 days. Suck. Then not even 30 minutes later I learn the Husband’s contract will be over at the end of January. MAJOR suck. The new year is apparently starting out by knocking me on my butt and then kicking me while I’m down.

Now, you may think that this would be the perfect opportunity for the HR Minion to give into depression, anger, and fear. I certainly did my share of freaking out, crying, and such yesterday. And then I got over it. Sure, I’m still upset and worried. I’m not stupid or delusional. But I am also flexible, practical, and (above all else) freakishly resilient. Not to mention having all of you great people out there who have offered your kind wishes, sympathy, and support (I love you all!).

So, what now? Here’s what I know:

– This is the first time I’ve been laid off and I don’t like it. Then again, who would?
– I harbor no ill will towards my current, soon to be former, employer and boss. I understand why the layoff’s are happening and, even though it sucks for me, I can’t argue with the reasoning.
– I am so busting out of the anonymous blogging closet so hard the doors will come off their hinges. I have no reason to be secretive anymore.
– I said I should probably get a new job this year and now I don’t have a choice. Irony sucks.
– I really wish I had signed up for the PHR test this January instead of waiting until May.
– I am going to have to work it on the job seeking front like the rent’s due (cause it will be).

I am a minion seeking a new master. So if you are an ego-maniacal, power hungry despot who is recruiting staff for your secret island lair, you”ll be hearing from me soon.

Oh man Minion, that sucks ass!

  • 2 Michael VanDervort :

Sorry to hear about the double whammy!

You are doing a great rebound though.

Also, looking forward to the big breakout..

What will you do with the little green dude, tho?

  • 3 HR Minion :

HR Underling – Oh, yes, this does suck copious amounts of ass. Like mythical proportions of ass. So much ass that… well you get the point.

Michael – Thanks! I’m thinking that Gir is going to have to stay around in some way, he’s become such an integral part of my brand.

  • 4 Laurie :

Oh no, I missed this on my birthday. What a shitty day for you.

What can I do, besides offer love & praise, to make you feel better??

  • 5 HR Wench :

We will all land on our feet (eventually….right?).

  • 6 HR Minion :

Laurie – No worries! You have already helped make me feel better but if you want, I could do with more Scrubby videos. Nothing like a cut kitty to make me feel better.

Jenn – I know we will, even if I don’t know when. We are too awesome to be otherwise. 🙂

  • 7 Steve Boese :

Whatever happens, don’t lose the little green dude. I think keeping your sense of humor will really help get you through. I loved how you tagged the post with ‘suck’

  • 8 HR Minion :

Steve – I knew people loved Gir! Suck seemed appropriate and I calls them as I sees them. Suck is probably the mildest way of putting things as well. 🙂

  • 9 Rachel - I Hate HR :

How did I miss this on your twitter?

I guess all HR people get laid off at some point. Maybe this will be your own time?

I wouldn’t blame you if you sat around crying for days. I would.

  • 10 Amanda Hite :

when your up to it, if you want send me your resume ahite@talentrevolution.net I’d be happy to pimp it out. best of luck.

  • 11 HR Minion :

Rachel – No worries about missing it own twitter. :)If this is my time I hope it’s my only time.

Amanda – I’ll totally take you up on that! Thanks so much!

  • 12 Jennifer McClure :

Sorry to hear about the job losses! You’re off to a good start with the positive attitude though. My HR position was eliminated 3 years ago, and thankfully (after a day or so) I was able to look at the situation and approach it as an opportunity to find out what I really wanted to be when I grew up. (after working almost 20 years) I know you’ll land on your feet, and if I can help in any way just let me know!

And I look forward to your coming out (but I agree – keep Gir)!

  • 13 Anonymous :

You go, Minion! If good wishes from your loyal fans have anything to do with it, you’ll land on your feet in no time.

  • 14 Jason Seiden :

What a bunch of Barfamato juice.

Keep me on your short list of resources, I’ll help any way I can.

  • 15 Erik :

I am so sorry to hear this. But I hope we can all stick together.

This is what my “On the Margin” series was written for, and perhaps you can benefit from some of my ideas and greatly improve a few others.

I may also have a plan to take over the world, so if that starts to gel I’ll call you right away. I’m not taking applications from anyone who says “Narf!”, BTW.

  • 16 HR Minion :

Jennifer- Thanks! I have to stay positive to get through this. 🙂

    Anon- Thanks for the support!

Jason- Thanks a lot, you’re sweet!

Erik – I said I was a capable minion! narf isn’t in my vocabulary so no worries. 🙂

  • 17 Jon Ingham :

Sorry to hear this and best wishes for finding a new role.

    Jon.

  • 18 HR Minion :

Jon – Thanks for the kind wishes!
