… the HR Minion. Because even minions have opinions. And giggles.

Thank you for shopping at Buy More

On Monday I will be starting a new position at Buy More’s corporate headquarters. Contingent upon a clean criminal check, that is. Thankfully, all my evil minion henching was conducted under a false identity. You can never be too careful after all.

I will be working on the Employee Relations team handling issues from locations across the country. I heard in the interview that most locations have the issues you would typically expect. You know, poor attendance, employee theft, personal conflicts and the like. But there’s this one store in California that seems to see more trouble than most: hostage situations, after hours parties, wanton destruction of company property, and even rumors of international espionage. Weird.

It’s a contract position to start, but it does have the possibility of becoming permanent. A gig with benefits would be nice but I’m glad that I was open to contract positions. Contract positions can be great opportunities and it’s important to not overlook them. In fact, the husband Tim has a great post about this at his blog, Hired Minds.

I’m excited and hopeful, to put it mildly. Employee relations is an area of HR that I really enjoy and find interesting. I really appreciate all the support and encouragement, lots of love to you all! I’ll do my best to do you all proud and bring it like it’s never been brought before!

Minion, Once you get settled in, do you want to see if you can get that Chuck guy from the CA store onto a mentorship program or something? He seems to have a certain spark or something, but I can’t help but think he is underutilized on the store floor.

Can’t wait to hear about your adventures!

Asha – Thanks and keep your chin up!

HR Good Witch – I’ve heard about Chuck, he has bad attendance though good leadership skills. 🙂

Congratulations, Minion! However did you get rehired so very quickly? Tell us your secret. You sure did something awfully right.

    Shauna –
    Congratulations on your new opportunity!

I love contract gigs. Regular employment is like getting married after two dates, and contract gigs are like dating for a long period before marrying. That’s WAY smarter. If it does turn into a permanent offer, you’ll know whether you like them enough to say yes.

Can’t wait to hear about the hostage situations. That sounds like excellent blog post material right there.
