… the HR Minion. Because even minions have opinions. And giggles.

It’s official

Well, it’s official now. No turning back for me. I have jumped into the pool, let’s hope I’m wearing floaties.

I have just signed up… to take… the PHR. Yes, HR Minion, not content with her BA, nor her Master’s, is now going for a certification. Do I think it will give me more credibility? Maybe, to some people. Do I think it will make me more marketable when looking for a job? Maybe, I see it in job descriptions. Do I think it will make me a better HR Professional? Maybe, it never hurts to study up on my field.

So, why am I going for it, you may ask? The above doesn’t seem like a lot of compelling reasons to spend the time and the money to go for it. And it does require a good deal of time and money.

Short answer:I’m doing it for me. I’m doing it because I like goals, I like a challenge, and, to a lesser extent, I feel that I am still young enough in my career that I have to prove myself. Besides, I only had a little time left on my SHRM membership so I might as well take advantage of the discount on the exam while I still could.

But now that I’ve talked about it on my blog, it’s going to be REEEEEAALLLY awkward if I don’t pass it. Like super, uber awkward. Now, where did I put that study guide? I only have until May 1st so I better not procrastinate.

No turning back now. You’ve gone to the dark side. Goodbye!

I’m proud of you. I took the SPHR test after attending a guerrilla cram session with Mike Losey, a former muckety muck at SHRM. I passed on my first try. You can, too. It’s not rocket science. You’ll be fine!

Good for you! I’ve taught certification prep classes for years, so if you need anything, just let me know!

  • 4 Kerry :

Good for you. I always look longer at resumes from certified candidates. It shows you take your career seriously, and that YOU feel you’re worth the investment.

Laurie – Good to know! And it’s always a happy day for me when I can make you proud! 🙂

Sharlyn – Yay! I’ll have to bug you then, thanks!

Kerry – It is always about me you know. 🙂

Talentedapps – Going public is helpful, it keeps me honest. 🙂

Rachel – I know! I finished the training classes so now it’s all just review until the test.

    Woo hoo!

I took the SPHR (and passed too on the first time). Had great advice from a friend who took it too. Went through the test twice – had just enough time.

Annoyed me tho one of their ‘questions’ was wrong. Asked about contractors and every answer had the word ’employee’ in it. I am sure that was one of their trial questions but where was the proof reader on it? I had some nice choice words for them in the comment section. 😉

HR Maven – Nice! I’ve heard the questions are a little political as in reflecting the actions they advise, not necessarily what someone might do in a normal situation.
