… the HR Minion. Because even minions have opinions. And giggles.

Man, that sucks

Today was a busy day for me. I was making calls, most of which ended up in voice mails (damn you people not being at my beck and call), processing requests, and closing cases. Unfortunately, being in Employee Relations means a busy day for me, usually involving helping managers “involuntarily separate” people from their jobs.

So, while my productivity numbers go up and I look all cool and stuff to my new bosses, I get to assist unemployment numbers increasing as well. On face value, that sucks. I mean, I don’t want to fire people, especially in this economy. And when you come across a case of an employee just being stupid and not annoying, it makes you feel a little bad.

But then the next five come along and it’s all you can do to not smack them upside the head for their bad behavior, and you forget about that one unfortunate employee. Truth be told, bad economy or not, high unemployment rate or not, people will always misbehave at work and need to be terminated.

I had a manager tell me he thought I had a hard job. I told him it wasn’t as bad as he thought. 99% of the time I feel comfortable with what I do. But that 1%, man, that part sucks.

    So true.

For me, it seems like everyone is different. There was one where I thought her boyfriend was going to beat her up for getting herself fired. Another where I was completely sad that she was so hopeless. Some I felt OK about, but not too many. Even when they soooooo deserve it, you have to feel sorry for them for not knowing any better.

    Kari – Thanks! 🙂

HR Good Witch – That’s sad. I don’t like to fire those who make mistakes, but I’ve seen many lazy and manipulative ones who need to go.
