… the HR Minion. Because even minions have opinions. And giggles.

Not what I expected

So, I’m sure it won’t come as a big surprise to any of you, but this year is not going at all how I expected. When January 1st rolled around seven months ago (the year is almost over!) I expected to face some challenges this year and I thought I was prepared. Not hardly. What is it they say, “best laid plans of minions”…or something.

Not to say that it’s all been hard. I’ve had some great opportunities come my way this year, completely unexpected but much appreciated and humbling opportunities. And I’ve meet a lot of great people as well. If there is one thing that the hardships of this year have thrust upon me, it would be all the opportunities to develop relationships I started online and brought offline. I can’t stress all the great things I have learned or the sense of community I’ve experienced from these offline meet ups.

It is in that optimistic and outgoing vein, that I am embarking on my second period of unemployment this year. Besides running around my house cleaning and tracking down whatever job leads I can sniff out, I am looking to take advantage of my new found “flexibility” and develop these online relationships more.

So if you’ve been meaning to get to know your favorite minion a little better, well, I’ve been meaning to get to know you better as well. So drop me an email (hrminion@gmail.com) and let’s set up a time to chat or, if you’re local, grab a coffee. Let’s make Mark Stelzner proud.

2009 has been challenging for everyone. It's especially tough for HR. Keep that great attitude, and keep on blogging.

Great post Shauna, and definitely a super idea to actively engage your readers and network. It is refreshing for a superstar such as yourself to be willing to chat with all of us little people :). You are the best and I am 100% confident in your ability and your future success is a given.

You know, this is the thing I hate most about living in Down Under….detached from all you awesome bloggers (offline that is). But may be one day….

In the meantime, don't lose heart Shauna…take inspiration from Lance!

My secret is having a "Pseudo Masochistic Positive Attitude". The problem is not everyone share the same excitement. YAY! Its Monday! or Yay! We are having the tenth meeting today, Lets go for eleven!

    I digress. Great Job!

    Indymike – I will, thanks!!

Steve – Superstar? Stop, I'm blushing! Flattery will get you everywhere. 🙂

Sakib – Are you on Skype? That is a great way to connect to others!

I hope you take the opportunity to do something nice for yourself. When I left Pfizer, I started exploring Kalamazoo. I had no money to spend, but I walked some historic neighborhoods and tried to get some sunshine (sorely lacking from my life in the office). I spent $1.08 on McDonald's ice cream cones in the afternoon and I brushed my cats on a daily basis. It was the small things. The little things. The cheap things. It's so tough to chill out and be good to yourself on a regular basis, but you deserve it. xxxooo

Laurie – I'll be sure to step back and do that! Maybe I should paint my toenails today? The pets seem to like me being home but every now and then they look at me like 'Why are you still here?" 🙂

That sucks…but I have no doubt that you're going to land again soon. All of this multi-company experience is just making you smarter and more attractive as a candidate.
