… the HR Minion. Because even minions have opinions. And giggles.

I’m a real bargain now!

With all the focus being placed on Health Care Reform, and rightly so, it’s easy to overlook another piece of legislation that was signed by President Obama last week: The Job Bill. Now, if you are looking for some hard hitting, in-depth analysis of the Bill, man did you come to the wrong blog. So why am I talking about it? Because as of the signing of the bill, I officially became an employable bargain! That’s right, this minion is a real steal, hire her now while supplies last! You see, going back to Feb. 3rd, if a company hires a person who has been unemployed for at least two months they will not be required to pay payroll taxes on that hire for the rest of the year! Dudes, you don’t know how tempted I am to put that on my cover letter. In red. In bold.

I think this Job Bill has the potential to have a positive impact; how much of one and how quickly though remains to be seen. Frankly, if the only thing this Bill does is encourage employers to take a second look at their unemployed job applicants I’ll be happy. Despite the current economic climate, too many companies still look negatively on “Active” candidates. It’s rather frustrating. Now, if this Bill encourages companies to open new positions they might have been hesitating on, like it is supposed to, even better. So if you’ve been thinking about hiring your own minion, I can get you a great deal on one.

Shauna- Nice post! I too am a Bargain for hire! The real conundrum here is the Job Bill only will work if Employers have confidence to hire people. All the incentive in the world means nothing if Companies are not going to hire. Unemployment is a real bummer. Hopefully someone will take a chance on both of us! Soon……….

Shauna, I agree this bill provides some incentive for companies to reframe their thinking on candidate viability. I wonder if it has even hit their radar screen.

Shennee – Totally! It’s just a matter of time. 🙂

Lynn – Yeah, I’m worried that companies are not aware of the benefits of the bill. I wish there was more dialogue around it.

I think we’ll see more on the radar about the Job Bill after the excitement about the health care legislation dies down…

Good luck with your search, Shauna! I like that you can still have a sense of humor during a tough time.

    Marsha – Here’s hoping!

Krista – Sometimes the only thing you can do is have a sense of humor. 🙂
