… the HR Minion. Because even minions have opinions. And giggles.

You’ve got (Gir) mail!

A crazy little thought has been rattling around in my brain this past week. You know the kind I’m talking about. The kind of idea that comes to you in a serendipitous moment or is inspired by some off-hand comment from a friend. This one I’m blaming on Bryon Abramowitz. Because I can and because it’s fun to.

Anyway, this is the kind of idea that after the first brief flash of “That’s a great idea!”, the second guessing and doubt comes in. And that is how things stand. So i think I’ll just throw this idea up on the wall and see if it sticks. Because ultimately, this idea requires your participation (yes, you).

Here’s the idea: I want to mail you Gir.

Not permanently mind you, I love my little proxy, but I want to send Gir out into the world, to explore and get fun new candid shots of him. As much as I like traveling around to meet people and go to conferences, I can’t be everywhere and there are still a lot of people I have yet to meet. But there is nothing stopping Gir from truly serving as my proxy and traveling around on my behalf, right?

Now, I wouldn’t want to be apart from him long, 1 to 2 weeks at most, and doing this means putting a lot of trust in others to not hurt him, lose him, and even to send him back to me. Not that I don’t love you all, but it’s a little hard giving up control over something that means a lot to you. Gir has been a big part of my blog and social media presence for almost 3 years now. Hence some hesitation on my part.

But I love the idea of Gir traveling, seeing what fun and creative pictures people will be able to come up with, and I think this could be a great way to better connect with others. And it just sounds fun.

So if you think you might want to participate, have some great ideas for pics, or are going to a conference you think he needs to be at, please let me know! It doesn’t matter if you’ve met me and Gir before, email me your idea and let’s see if this is a project that we can actually get off the ground! I already know of a few people I want to reach out to…

And you get this idea AFTER my European odyssey? Bollocks. I could’ve used the support. 😉

I’m on board. Want me to take him to Toronto on the 10th?

  • 4 HRBR :

Does it have to be for conferences? Maybe he could just make the HR rounds… I dunno, sounds like fun.

I will be at ILSHRM state conference in late August and Ohio SHRM in September. Gir is welcome to travel with me to either or both. I am leaving for Naples and will be there from July 6-10 if you want him to go just a short way at first. He could see a sunset on the Gulf of Mexico and maybe help me find a new house. 🙂
