Giving Thanks

I found Gir trying to get into the Thanksgiving Turkey and Ham a couple days early.

For all my US readers, Thanksgiving is almost upon us and for all my fellow bloggers out there, we are putting out the obligatory holiday post. So before I fall into a turkey coma and go to dog sit over the weekend, I totally need to do the same, right?

But my blatant conformity problem aside, I have had a lot to be thankful for this year. It’s be an active and crazy year, but certainly a good one.

In less than one year I moved back to Birmingham, found a great job I love almost right away, traveled a bunch including a trip to Hawaii for my Grandmother’s 90th birthday, and I got engaged. So yeah, a super good year.

I am thankful for all the good in my life right now. All the joy helps make any sadness from the past fade and feel distant, any pain in the present something to overcome, and make me stronger for the future. That is truly something to be thankful for as well.

And I can’t leave out how thankful I am for you, my dear readers, as well. My best wishes to you and your families this holiday. Don’t set your garage on fire flash frying a Turkey, stay safe shopping on Black Friday, and enjoy the weekend.

On the one hand, it always strikes me as strange that Thanksgiving is so close to xmas, with some of the same rituals. I am no expert on this holiday, but one thing which is perhaps nice about it is that it doesn’t appear tio be overly commercialised (if I am wrong someone will set me straight I am sure) in the sense of presents etc etc. The idea of a holiday to just stop, be grateful, and be with close family is a positive one.

Catherine – I think Thanksgiving is a nice change because there is such an emphasis on being together and thankful. Thanks for the comment!
